Barcelona lost 3-2 to Mexico’s America in a friendly game on Thursday in Dallas, Texas, despite fielding a young team and playing with little rest.

Marc Guiu scored in the 28th minute and youthful Lamine Yamal scored in the sixth, as Barcelona defeated bottom team Almeria 3-2 in La Liga the day before.

However, the recently crowned Mexican champions, America, overcame a late deficit to win the Cotton Bowl thanks to goals from Colombian Julian Quinones in the 12th and 50th minutes and Henry Martin in the 82nd.

Many players from Barcelona’s second squad were employed by coach Xavi Hernandez, but five players who started the game the day before—Joao Cancelo, Andreas Christensen, Fermin Lopez, Joao Felix, and Robert Lewandowski—also saw action.

“It was an amazing match; both Barcelona and America provided a show, goals, and chances, and we gave young and very young players opportunities,” Xavi said to TUDN. “The older ones rationally, we played a game yesterday, and even though we were exhausted, I think everyone had fun.”
