For allegedly attempting to sever a 25-year-old woman’s throat in Umuona village, Isuofia in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, Aman, also known as Nonso, has been sent on remand.
According to reports, the defendant dug a 4-foot-deep pit at the back of his property to bury the victim, who was allegedly his lover, together with her two children, a 5-year-old son and a 3-year-old daughter who had separate dads.

Uchendu Uchechukwu, the victim, claimed to be an orphan and the fourth of eight children. She also claimed to have been living alone after her parents’ passing caused her to drop out of SS2 in order to care for them.

I work menial jobs like gathering palm fruits and earn between N500 and N700 per day to feed the two kids and myself, she said.

“In 2021, a young man named Nonso approached me and said that he was a native doctor. He said he would wed me. He visited my house frequently during the past year for this reason.

NIS mandates Saturday hours for passport offices.

“He contacted me on that fateful day and asked me to bring my kids over for a surprise package. I gladly accepted the offer, and he requested that his friend drive us on his motorcycle.

When he first arrived, he requested me to cover my eyes as he tied a white cloth around my face in preparation for a surprise. He sliced my throat with a sharp knife, leaving me to fight for my life.

He threw me into the grave that had already been excavated and then used a large stone to force me to stay there while he went to get a shovel so he could bury me and the children alive.

I then began yelling for aid, which caused his older sister, who had already gone to bed, to run outside and call for additional help to save me.

The culprit was reportedly promptly seized by the crowd, who undressed him and paraded him before turning him over to security agents, but his motorcycle-riding companion managed to flee.

Uchechukwu asked security personnel to help her see that justice is done in the situation.

“I appeal to the government and security personnel to see that justice is served. If you can help me fix the broken machinery, I’m ready to resume my nylon-producing business, she added.

The defendant was remanded in jail detention for attempted murder when the case was called up at the Children, Sexual and Gender Based Violence Court, sitting in Awka and presided over by Magistrate Genevieve Osakwe.
