The state police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the occurrence to reporters. He said that CP Aderemi Adeoye, the Commissioner of Police, disapproved of the behavior and repeated his request that the public always bring criminals to the closest police station so that appropriate action may be taken.
Three Soldiers Are Killed in a Bakassi Shootout by Biafra Militants
Meanwhile, a shootout between separatist militants supporting the Biafra Nations League (BNL) and the Rapid d’Intervention Battalions (BIR), a division of the Cameroonian armed forces, is believed to have claimed the lives of three troops.
It was learned that the latter had engaged the Biafra militants in gun combat when they attempted to overrun the Atabong East settlements in the Idabato sector of the Bakassi Peninsula.
The incident happened on October 31 at approximately 5:00 p.m.
The BnL’s Dragon Fighter Marines are said to have launched a defensive attack on the BIR, posing as the president of Cameroon’s special military.
Three Cameroonian soldiers are said to have died in the ensuing gunfight.
It is said that the separatists from Biafra operate on the outskirts of the Bakassi Peninsula.
According to sources cited by Daily Post, the fight for Idabato did not last for more than thirty minutes, and BIR was compelled to leave the region.
According to reports, the insurgent gang opened fire from behind, causing injuries among the Cameroonian citizens who had walked into an ambush.
However, the Nigerian government have not yet released an official statement to corroborate or deny the event as of the time this article was filed.
