Donald, a teenage boy, is said to have tied a shoelace around his neck in an attempt to end his life.
The event took place on Saturday afternoon in Calabar on Ekondo Street.
The fourteen-year-old youngster resided at 49 Ekondo Street in Calabar South with his grandmother.
In an interview with Vanguard, one of his pals, Eyo, disclosed that on Saturday am, Donald went to purchase a locally known dish called fufu after doing his morning chores. That was the last time they saw or heard from the child.
“He went to buy the fufu, and nobody heard from him again until the grandmother called a carpenter to help him down from where the boy was leaning on the wall with a rope around his neck at about noon,” the man stated.
He claimed that when the carpenter inquired about what had occurred, the woman remained silent and the carpenter felt compelled to flee the property in order to sound the alarm.
Eyo went on, “Until the carpenter ran outside and set off the alarm, nobody heard any noise coming from the compound, so we all went inside.” The lad’s legs were on the ground, he was wearing only a shoelace around his neck, and there was no table or other object for him to climb on to secure his head in the noose.
He claimed that after assessing the situation, officers from the Atakpa Police Station left.
“The boy was not touched by the police, and other people who were called to remove the boy did not come into contact with the body either. When the woman was asked to remove the boy, she refused,” he continued.
Another street resident expressed confusion about how the youngster might have killed himself with a shoelace.
“There is no way the boy could tie that little rope around his neck to kill himself without severing the shoelace,” he stated.
He claimed to have seen the boy in his dreams and suffered from nightmares ever after the boy passed away.
“We were very close, and ever since I saw him leaning on that wall with a rope around his neck on Saturday afternoon, every night when I go to sleep, I see him, and he keeps asking for justice,” the resident stated. The youngster is an orphan, which is why all of these are taking place. His mother and father have passed away.
