In the Ike North-East Local Government Area of Delta State’s Ogbe Quarters, Ute- Okpu community, a guy electrocuted himself to death while vandalizing a transformer.
On Sunday, DSP Bright Edafe, a state police spokesperson, verified the event.
“Yes, it has been verified. Sadly, the young man was electrocuted because he was a vandal, Edafe stated.
Residents of the neighborhood reportedly alerted authorities when they discovered the man’s body hanging from cables and an electric pole nearby a store.
According to a witness who only went by the name John, he observed the body on the pole while on route to a neighbouring community and called the police.
“A young child who was heading to the next village informed us that a dead body was hanging from an electric pole. The rain has kept us inside since the morning, keeping us in our beds, said John.
“Due to the rain, we stayed indoors. We came out to our frontage, but we failed to notice the young man’s lifeless body hanging there. The fact that the body was holding an electrical cord indicates that he was cutting it.
“For a while, we were without power, but the BEDC restored it about three in the morning; only God knows what happened. Before the corpse was hauled down, we warned the local vigilance volunteers, who then called the police.
