Conor McGregor, the UFC fighter, will not face sexual assault charges in connection with an alleged incident at an NBA Finals game in Miami in June.
“The State Attorney’s Office will not press charges, and the case will be closed,” Miami police stated in a statement to ESPN on Wednesday.
Prosecutors found there was insufficient evidence to show McGregor assaulted a woman in an arena washroom during the Heat’s Game 4 loss to the Denver Nuggets on June 9, according to TMZ Sports.
McGregor, 35, refuted the charges right away.
“On behalf of my client, his family, and his fans, we are pleased this is now over,” his attorney, Barbara Llanes, told TMZ Sports.
McGregor sat courtside for the basketball game and performed a halftime commercial act in which he repeatedly hit the Heat mascot. Burnie, the mascot, was taken to the medical hospital and given pain medication, according to USA Today.
McGregor hasn’t competed in the UFC since breaking his leg in a loss to Dustin Poirier in July 2021. The former featherweight and lightweight champion from Ireland had a 22-6 record, including 19 knockouts.
In Spain, being investigated does not always result in indictment, and no official charges can be presented until the first part of the inquiry is concluded.
