A claim that members of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ondo State Command, kicked a pregnant woman in the stomach on Saturday along the Akure expressway has been denied.
In a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Akure, the State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Ezekiel SonAllah, denied the claims made in the article.
According to the Twitter account, the woman bled on Saturday along the Akure expressway after allegedly being kicked by a road marshal.
The sector commander disputes the claims that the woman was booted or otherwise mistreated.
He claimed that the driver of the car she was riding in only finally obeyed the order to stop when he attempted to run down two marshals.
SonAllah asserted that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and the vehicle was overweight.
He claims that the FRSC officers stopped two vehicles traveling from Keji in Osun to Ogbese in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, but one managed to wriggle free and drive away.
According to the sector commander, the driver of the second vehicle refused to stop as well, and in an effort to flee, he turned the automobile toward Marshal Aboluja.
Before the car was brought to a stop with the assistance of other team members, he also claimed that the driver attempted to run over Olamigoke, another marshal.
“The moment the car stopped, the occupants got out and started sobbing. When I got there, one woman said she had been hit, but there was nothing wrong with her; she had no bleeding from her nose or anywhere else.
According to him, the marshals brought the woman to a nearby hospital when she claimed that she was in pain.
“It is not how others are portraying it; rather, Marshal Olamigoke suffered an ear injury.
“While the driver was being apprehended, we had to contact the Scorpion Squad of the Nigerian Police to help defuse the situation.
“We now tell the general public and well-meaning Nigerians that the information/news circulating through the Twitter account @YemieFash concerning a Federal Road Safety Officer in Akure kicking a woman on the stomach while blood was streaming out was bogus and incorrect!
“Because there is no record of such an incidence ever occurring. We hope that by using this media, the public will reject and discard the false rumor.
As we continue to carry out our legal obligations, we are steadfastly dedicated to providing a safer driving environment, he said (NAN)
