Tunji Wusu –
The Special Military Task Force, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), which is keeping the peace in Plateau and its surrounds, announced the recovery of 130 illegal firearms in the state and other regions of its joint operation.
The Commander of Operation, Maj.-Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar, said this when he turned over the seized firearms to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light firearms (NCCSALW) on Monday in Jos.
Abubakar, who reaffirmed his commitment to halting the tide of instability on the Plateau, said the weapons were recovered using both kinetic and non-kinetic methods.
“Our troops have remained steadfast in combating all forms of crime and violence; troops have also maintained an offensive posture, carrying out several kinetic operations that resulted in massive recoveries of illagle weapons.”
“Overall, the OPSH troops’ operational success resulted in the recovery of 130 small arms and light weapons from criminal elements.”
“We have 29 Danish guns, 53 manufactured revolver rifles, 14 AK-47 rifles, one English pistol, 21 locally manufactured pistols, one G3 rifle, and eight locally manufactured AK-47 rifles.”
“Others include nine Harrisburg pistols, two locally manufactured SMGs, 28 AK-47 and three locally manufactured magazines, one RPG7 tube, four RPG7 rockets with chargers, 1,522 rounds of ammunition, and 500 rounds of 9mm ammunition,” he claimed.
Abubakar, who congratulated the state’s population for their support and cooperation in achieving the achievement, pledged that the operation’s troops would continue to be just and fair to everybody.
“We will maintain the pace in order to significantly reduce the activities of criminal elements in our joint area of operation.”
“We will remain professional, decisive, and responsive in the discharge of our constitutional mandate,” he stated.
