Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has increased the amount of Special Assistants on Political Units he will appoint from the 28,000 he initially announced on Wednesday to 50,000 despite complaints that have been received.

The most recent appointment was announced in a press release by Kelvin Ebiri, the governor’s special assistant for media. He stated that the appointments would go into effect right now. On Tuesday, October 11, 2022, the governor appointed 40 local government area liaison officers and 14,319 ward liaison officers.

He reviewed the amount to 28,000 on Wednesday, October 12, and to 50,000 today, Thursday, October 13. But there are worries that the appointments are political.

Thoughts have been expressed that the appointees are political figures receiving protection from the administration from Wike. Given that the governor hasn’t made clear what the new hires’ positions will entail, rumors abound.
