Argentinean midfielder Rodrigo De Paul suffered an injury and left the game in the 66th minute, costing his team a tense victory over Netherlands in the round of 16 that required a penalty shootout.
De Paul experienced a muscular injury to his hamstrings, it was later discovered.
Lionel Scaloni’s plans heavily rely on the Atletico Madrid player, who is the only midfielder to have started each game for Argentina in Qatar.
De Paul will play in the game, but Scaloni did not specify if he will start, on the night of Argentina’s semifinal match against Croatia. The injured quadriceps of Angel Di Maria was also mentioned by the Argentine manager.
“Both players are in good physical shape. We must consider the number of minutes that they can play. We can decide tomorrow, but from what I hear, they should be able to play, he said.
The 28-year-old De Paul has been among the World Cup’s hardest-working midfielders, winning more possession in the middle third than any other player (24).
For Argentina, only Nicolas Otamendi (462) has completed more passes than De Paul (433) does, underscoring his importance to the South American team.
