Around 3,000 candidates are vying for 200 spots in the Foreign Post-Graduate Scholarship Program after recently taking a computer-based test administered by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
The panel conducted an interview with the candidates yesterday in Port Harcourt, the state capital of Rivers.
The NDDC Acting Managing Director, Emmanuel Audu-Ohwavborua, told the applicants that the interview will be fair and open when speaking at the interview location.
He added that the program was one of the inspiring stories guiding the commission and that the 200 scholars who would be chosen would serve as its ambassadors.
In a statement issued by Audu-Ohwavborua and signed by Dr. Ibitoye Abosede, Director, Corporate Affairs, NDDC, the group stated: “We want to lay a strong foundation for our kids. We intend to deliver our very best.
“Since 2010, we have provided training to students at universities abroad. The candidates must be from the Niger Delta region, with a focus on professionalism and competence.
The scholars are being sent abroad to represent our nation. They will serve as our honorable ambassadors. To guarantee impartiality, the interview panels were chosen at random. I am pleased that I have seen participants’ good comments.
The Chairman of the interview panel and Dean of the Faculty of Law at Rivers State University in Port Harcourt, Prof. Chris Wigwe, SAN, informed the NDDC that only the top candidates would be chosen.
