The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has charged the executive of the Commission’s Staff Multi-Purpose Co-operative Society to uphold transparency, integrity, and strict financial accountability in managing members’ savings.

Amupitan delivered the directive during the Cooperative’s Annual General Meeting and election, warning that corruption in any form remains a deadly threat to institutions built on collective trust.

He urged the incoming and outgoing executives to ensure free, fair and credible internal elections, maintain transparent financial records and manage members’ funds with prudence.

“The cooperative money belongs to its members; the executive is merely a trustee. Your books must be open, your transactions traceable, and your decisions justifiable,” he stressed.

Amupitan reaffirmed his commitment to staff welfare, insisting that cooperative leaders must provide equal access to loan facilities and benefits without bias or favouritism.

He cautioned that every naira must be accounted for and invested in ventures that directly improve members’ welfare, particularly in the current economic climate.

“Cooperative money is not for party celebrations. There must be zero tolerance for mismanagement,” he said, adding that a forward-thinking investment approach would secure a stronger future for the society.
