The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated its willingness to join its cooperation with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) towards ensuring the peaceful and orderly conduct of elections in the state on Wednesday by the new INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Osun State, Professor Abdulganiyu Olayinka Raji.
During the visit to the Osun State Command of the NSCDC in Osogbo, the state capital. Raji commended the Osun NSCDC Commandant, Emmanuel Ocheja, for deploying officers to provide security at INEC offices throughout the state.
The INEC REC, revealed that the NSCDC remained a major stakeholder as far as election in the country is concerned and added that the corps is closer to members of the public than other security agencies.
Ocheja, assuring Raji of the command’s commitment to providing security during and after elections in the state, also stressed that proactive intelligence is paramount to make the task easier for both parties.
In the same vein, the NSCDC Commandant hinted that the corps was planning to launch its female armed and rapid response squad whose aim is to effectively carry out operations and address distress calls statewide.
Ocheja explained that their establishment would further help to beef up security in the state and give the residents a safe blanket to go about their daily business activities.
