Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has stirred debate online after endorsing improvements at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, saying she is willing to collaborate with any political party to “build a better tomorrow” for Nigeria.
The controversy began when the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) shared a video on X showing Iyabo praising the authority’s efforts to upgrade facilities. Alongside the clip, she wrote: “FAAN is changing for the better in so many ways. I’m so proud of my country.”
Her remarks sparked mixed reactions, with many recalling her past criticism of the Tinubu administration and her public support for Peter Obi during the 2023 general elections.
Amid the backlash, FAAN Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku clarified that Iyabo had neither received any contract nor been appointed as the authority’s ambassador.
Speaking to her followers, Iyabo Ojo emphasized her goodwill and patriotism, stating she was not paid for the video. “I’m Nigerian. And I’m a voice. When I see progress—airports upgraded, roads rebuilt, systems improved—I shout it from the rooftops, not because I am being paid, not because I am political, but because I feel it and I want good for my country,” she wrote on Instagram.
She further stressed her readiness to work with any political party committed to national development. “FAAN approached me that you have seen the changes. Please help us spread the word. So I did it for free. No contract. Just love for Nigeria. If Nigeria must rise, we ALL must build it. Silence helps no one. I will work with any political party as long as it is building a better tomorrow for our dear nation. No agenda. Just hands joined. Let’s stop dividing,” Iyabo added.
The actress’ statement comes amid a wave of celebrity endorsements orchestrated by Seyi Tinubu, who has been rallying influencers to lead support groups for his father’s potential re-election. Iyabo’s video was shared months after her private meeting with Seyi Tinubu in Lagos State, adding another layer to public scrutiny of her political neutrality.
