It has been declared by the Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB) that registration costs for the 2024–2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination will not apply to those with impairments.
This information was made public by JAMB Registrar Ishaq Oloyede when the registration procedure for interested candidates throughout the country began.
JAMB Registrar Ishaq Oloyede said that as a supportive move, the board will give free application documents to all categories of Persons Living With Disabilities in the announcement of the start of registration for the 2024 matriculation examination today.
“To support the PLWD, JAMB will issue free application documents to all categories of Persons Living with Disabilities in the advertisement for the 2024 UTME/DE,” he said.
Oloyede disclosed that measures have been implemented to enable a smooth registration procedure for every applicant. He said that as part of these steps, blind candidates would receive audio books.
The popular audio formats MP3, WMV, and WMA will be supported by this digital version of classic reading materials, guaranteeing compatibility with a wide range of devices that can stream audio recordings.
Oloyede stated that the first National Conference on Equal Opportunity of Access to Higher Education in Nigeria served as the inspiration for the audiobook program.
The JAMB has expanded the free registration offer beyond blind candidates to include people with Down syndrome, autism, dyslexia, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
“The following categories of candidates will now be listed under the disability group: Down syndrome, Autism, Dyslexia disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder (ADHD),” he said.
