At the conclusion of registration, 1.6 million applicants had registered for the UTMEs administered by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in 2023.
This information was provided by the Board’s Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, at the conclusion of a joint monitoring exercise with Mr. David Adejo, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, on Monday in Abuja.
However, Oloyede revealed that throughout the registration procedure, 15 fraudsters were found, and she added that they had been caught and were being held in custody.
He also mentioned that direct entry candidate registration started on Monday.
He claims, “Thus far, we have registered roughly 1.6 million candidates, and that is because the direct entry begins today, and we do not expect more than that.
“As we have been seeing what has been happening, we face the problem of regular individuals trying to cheat the system.
“Even when they believe they are brilliant, we are ahead of them.”
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary stated that the registration period needed to be extended in order to allow those who were facing the difficulty of the naira redesign to register.
This is especially true because the registration procedure depends on bank activities, and for reasonable reasons, those operations haven’t been at their peak in the past two to three weeks.
Asejo stated that JAMB had actually registered about 98% of applicants prior to the one-week extension of registration, demonstrating that no one will be left behind in the process.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the exercise was held at the Global Distance Learning Institute, one of the Computer Based Centers (CBT).
