In response to numerous complaints about poor performance in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has launched a thorough investigation into alleged technical glitches. JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, confirmed this move in a statement released on Monday.

A significant concern arose after more than 1.5 million of the 1.9 million candidates who sat for the UTME scored below 200 out of a possible 400 marks, sparking widespread public dissatisfaction. In light of this, JAMB is expediting its annual system review, a detailed analysis of the examination process typically conducted months after the exam, but now being fast-tracked due to the current complaints.

The investigation will focus on three key stages: registration, the examination itself, and the result release process. The Board has expressed particular concern over unusual complaints originating from certain states, which are being scrutinized in detail to identify and resolve any potential technical faults.

To assist in the review, JAMB has enlisted the help of experts, including members of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria, Chief External Examiners, Vice Chancellors, and professionals from the Educational Assessment and Research Network in Africa, as well as measurement experts. JAMB assured that if glitches are confirmed, appropriate remedial measures would be swiftly implemented to ensure fairness and transparency.

Dr. Benjamin emphasized that, should any issues be identified, JAMB will act promptly to rectify the situation and provide affected candidates with the necessary remedies.
