The 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) was launched on Tuesday by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Our correspondent visited a few Computer Based Centers (CBT) in Abuja and the surrounding area, and it became clear that there were no technical issues with the exam.

It was noted that candidates were already waiting for the exam to begin at the Global Distance Learning Institute in Abuja’s Central Business Area at 6:50 a.m.

Additionally, it was noted that the first session of the exams, which was scheduled to begin at precisely 8:00 a.m., did not begin until a few minutes past 9:00 a.m.

While waiting for directives from JAMB headquarters, the schedule was changed from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., an invigilator who only gave his name as Rilwanu explained when questioned why the candidates were still waiting.

Mr. Abdulrahman Balogun, one of the exam’s High Opinion Leaders, claimed there were no technological difficulties and that the only slight delay came from JAMB headquarters.

This morning, I visited several centers, including Jikwoyi, Karu, AYA, and the Global Distance Learning Institute.

The first of the three sessions at this center is scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m., and students are expected to come at 6:30 a.m. The third session will begin at 11:00 a.m., with the second session beginning at 9:00 a.m.

“We experienced a brief delay at this center; the exam that was scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m. was postponed, and when I enquired, I was informed that there had been no technological difficulties and that instead, they were awaiting instructions from JAMB headquarters.

“As you can see, the examination is proceeding without interruption. For the first session, 200 candidates were scheduled, but only 183 of them were accredited, 16 were absent, and one was unverified,” he stated.

Balogun applauded the procedure, adding that close to 98% success in terms of orderliness, fluidity, and arrangement was recorded. He claimed that candidates in the second batch had been assessed to determine their center.

He cautioned parents to refrain from hindering the examination process in response to the large number of parents loitering the testing location.

“Parents will still be parents, and some may claim that they will accompany their kids for security concerns.

Some claim that they are still children, but in reality, they are children. You cannot hold them responsible, but they must refrain from interfering with the administration of the JAMB examination.
