The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, or JAMB, has stated that it is considering allowing candidates to use personal gadgets, including cell phones, during the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, or UTME.

Speaking over the weekend in Abuja, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, said the policy, which falls under the “Bring Your Own Device” category, was being explored due to the rising expense of logistics in administering the UTME nationally.

According to him, the Board spent over N1.2 billion to outfit a CBT center in Kaduna state, mainly in acquiring laptops for applicants to utilize during the examination.

He stated that the policy may require future UTME applicants to bring their own devices to the examination hall.
