The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced 420,674 registrations for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), as confirmed by JAMB Registrar, Is-haq Oloyede. Speaking to journalists in Ilorin after inspecting Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers, Oloyede expressed his satisfaction with the registration process, commending the efforts of staff, CBT centers, and security agencies.
“We’ve seen significant improvement this year. The process is running smoothly, and we’re very pleased with the results. Everyone involved has adhered to the highest standards,” Oloyede remarked.
The board anticipates that approximately two million candidates will register for the 2025 UTME, surpassing the 1.9 million candidates who registered in 2024. The UTME registration period began on February 3 and will run until March 8, 2025.
In line with the directive from the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, only candidates aged 16 and above are eligible to sit for the UTME. However, underage candidates are allowed to register for a mock-UTME this year, with the option to participate in the actual UTME in subsequent years. As of now, 124,632 candidates have registered for the mock examination.
Furthermore, Mr. Oloyede revealed that six individuals had been permanently banned from participating in the UTME due to their involvement in alleged exam malpractice. One senior university official is also under prosecution, with others currently under investigation for exam-related offenses.
