Veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva has opened up about one key advantage of marrying an older man, offering fresh insight into her decades-long union with iconic actor Olu Jacobs.

Speaking during a recent appearance on TVC’s programme, Your View, the 64-year-old screen legend reflected on her love journey and explained why her marriage has stood the test of time.

Joke Silva married Olu Jacobs in 1985, despite their 20-year age gap — a decision that raised eyebrows at the time but has since become one of Nollywood’s most admired unions.

Recounting how they met, the actress revealed that their relationship did not begin with fireworks on her part.

“Yes, we met on stage, and when we met on a movie set, everybody knew it was the great Olu Jacobs who was coming — except me,” she said. “When he came, we got on very well and it was after we started dating that I discovered his age because he looked so good.”

According to her, while it was love at first sight for Olu Jacobs, she took her time before developing strong feelings.

“For him, it was love at first sight but for me, it wasn’t,” she explained.

However, Silva highlighted what she considers a distinct advantage of marrying an older man.

“This older men allows you to get away with a lot of things,” she said with a smile, suggesting that maturity and life experience often shape how older partners approach relationships.

The actress’ remarks have since sparked conversations online about age gaps in marriage and the dynamics of long-term relationships.

Over the years, Joke Silva and Olu Jacobs have remained one of Nollywood’s most respected couples, navigating the demands of fame while sustaining a marriage that has lasted nearly four decades.
