…Energetic midfielder leaves Crown FC after standout NNL season
…Plateau United continue rebuild with key signing from playoffs
Jonathan Okechukwu has completed a switch to Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Plateau United, in a move aimed at bolstering the team’s midfield options ahead of the new season.
Okechukwu joins the Peace Boys from Crown FC, a Nigeria National League (NNL) club based in Ogbomosho. His impressive performance during the NNL playoff tournament in Asaba caught the attention of several top-flight scouts, with Plateau United ultimately winning the race for his signature.
The midfielder, known for his energy and ball-winning ability, formed a formidable duo with Wasiu Falolu at Crown FC last season. Both players were pivotal to the club’s strong run during the playoffs, but it was Okechukwu’s consistent displays and leadership in midfield that earned him the transfer.
With Plateau United currently undergoing a major rebuilding phase, following the appointment of a new management team and head coach, Okechukwu is expected to slot into the heart of midfield and play a key role in shaping the team’s identity next season.
Club insiders describe his signing as a strategic move aimed at injecting youth and hunger into the squad as they aim to challenge for honours in the 2025/2026 NPFL campaign.
