Babatunji Wusu –
Professor Chinedu Mmon, the Rivers State Commissioner for Education and a devoted follower of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has resigned from the government of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Following the resignations of former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Zacchaeus Adangor, and former Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Isaac Kamalu, a few weeks ago, Mmon is the third reappointed commissioner to submit his resignation.
Following their reassignment to the Ministry of Special Duties (Governor’s Office) and the Ministry for Employment Generation and Empowerment, respectively, Adangor and Kamalu tendered their resignations.
The former Commissioner for Education announced his resignation from his position on May 25, 2024, in a letter to the governor sent through the Secretary to the State Government (SSG). He said that his current work environment had become toxic.
Alabo George-Kell, a former Rivers State Commissioner of Works, has provided an explanation for his decision to leave the governor Sim Fubara’s cabinet.
George-Kelly clarified in a Channels Television interview that he left Fubara’s cabinet because the state was spending money without authorization.
