Senior attorneys such as Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), the immediate past Chairman of the Body of Benchers, have arrived at the Supreme Court ahead of the 9 a.m. start of proceedings in the three appeals pertaining to the dispute over the last presidential election. Olanipekun, who entered the courtroom at around 8 a.m., is leading the legal teams of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Among others present in the courtroom include Mike Ozekhome (SAN), a member of the Atiku Abubakar/Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legal team; Charles Uwensuyi-Edosomwan, SAN, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC); Sir Steve Adehi, SAN, of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, legal team; and Chukwuma Majukwu Umeh, SAN, of the legal team of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM).
The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) on September 6 denied the petitions of Atiku/PDP, Peter Obi/Labour Party, and the APM. Through their three appeals, these parties are attempting to overturn the ruling. Tinubu’s election was retained.
In addition, Atiku and his supporters submitted a request asking the court to allow them to present new evidence in the form of transcripts from Chicago State University (CSU) and Registrar Caleb Westberg’s deposition about Tinubu’s academic credentials.
