The capital of Edo State, Benin City, is currently host to a large-scale demonstration by Civil Society Organizations (CSO) against the nation’s continuous economic suffering.
These CSOs’ members rushed the streets with a variety of placards, such as “Federal Government, Address the Hunger Crisis in Nigeria Immediately” and “Put an End to Economic Hardship.”
The most recent protest in Edo comes after a similar one in which citizens of Oyo State’s capital, Ibadan, expressed their concerns about the economic difficulties they are suffering.
A human rights organization called the “Take It Back Movement” had earlier planned a demonstration in Lagos State to protest the country’s excessive food prices and general high expense of life.
It is noteworthy that this protest took place in Lagos in spite of the warning that Adegoke Fayoade, the state commissioner of police for Lagos, gave on Sunday.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has reaffirmed that it will plan a demonstration that is scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
The demonstration would take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, the NLC announced on February 16.
The government’s purported inability to follow through on the agreements reached on October 2, 2023, following the termination of the fuel subsidy, is the basis for this protest.
This choice was made in response to the Federal Government’s 14-day ultimatum to solve the current problems.
