Babatunji Wusu –
Supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the Rivers State House of Assembly, will screen eight commissioner-nominees today.
The governor brought these nominees before the assembly.
It is said that Dr. G. N. Gillis-West, the assembly’s clerk, invited the nominees to the screening session in a letter on Monday.
According to a copy of the letter that newsmen were able to obtain on Tuesday morning, the House, led by factional Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo, is planning to start the screening process this morning, May 21, 2024, at 10 a.m.
The letter, titled ‘Public Announcement,’ read, ‘The Rivers State House of Assembly hereby invites the following commissioner-nominees for screening and confirmation as members of the Rivers State Executive Council.”
Charles Beke, Collins Onunwo, Solomon Eke, Dr. Peter Medee, Eloka Amadi, Basoene Benibo, Tambari Gbara, and Dr. Ovy Chukwuma were the nominees named in the letter.
The State House of Assembly auditorium, located in the Administration Block of Government House, Port Harcourt, the state capital, is where the candidates are required to attend a session, as the clerk also indicated.
The letter also stated that the nominees should provide 12 sets of their curriculum vitae as well as original and photocopies of their certifications.
It is crucial to emphasize that this is the second time that the Fubara-supporting House of Assembly has screened candidates for commissioner since it became an independent legislative body.
Under Victor Oko-Jumbo’s direction, the assembly completed the screening procedure last week and subsequently approved Dagogo Iboroma, SAN, for membership in the State Executive Council. His appointment as the next Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice followed.
