In his rural home in Rinza village in the state’s Wamba local government area, Professor Onje Gye-Wado, a former deputy governor of Nasarawa State, was abducted last night.
According to reports, Wado was kidnapped on Thursday just before midnight when the kidnappers shattered his wife’s window and entered the compound over the fence. They then took the professor somewhere unknown.
When one of his cousins was slain during a failed kidnapping attempt, Professor Onje Gye Wado reportedly managed to escape three times.
“The wife arrived for Easter, and they forced entry via her widow and abducted her husband. They threatened to kill him over the phone this morning, Friday, about four in the morning, according to a family source.
Between 1999 and 2003, Prof. Onje Gye-Wado served as deputy governor under the leadership of Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the current national chairman of the APC.
While the command ramps up search and rescue efforts, the Nasarawa state command of the Nigerian Police has verified the abduction of the former Deputy Governor with an assurance from the Commissioner of Police, CP Maiyaki Baba, that Prof. Onje Gye-Wado will be freed.
According to information given to the command, on July 4, 2023, at around 12:30 am, unidentified gunmen stormed Gwagi village in the Wamba LGA, broke into a man named Prof. Onje Gye-home, wado’s and took him to an unidentified location.
The police stated that after receiving the information, Wamba Division personnel rushed to the area, but the kidnappers had already left with the victim when they arrived.
