Gboyega Akosile, the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) for Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has been promoted to Special Advisor for Media and Publicity.
The appointment was announced on Wednesday in a letter signed by Bode Agoro, Head of Service, and dated March 13, 2024. It took effect immediately.
“I wish to convey the approval of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State, of your new appointment as Special Adviser, Media and Publicity (Non-Cabinet Rank) to Mr. Governor. The appointment takes effect from 13th March 2024 to 21st May 2027.
“In appointing you, the State Government expects you to demonstrate a high level of dedication, diligence, and selflessness in the discharge of your duties to justify the confidence and trust reposed in you,” the statement reads in part.
Akosile served as Governor Sanwo-Olu’s chief press secretary prior to his new position.
Prior to Governor Sanwo-Olu’s second-term inauguration, he worked as the governor’s media advisor both during and after the 2019 governorship campaign.
During Governor Sanwo-first Olu’s stint in office, he also functioned as his deputy chief press secretary and then as his chief press secretary.
Akosile graduated from the University of Ilorin with a Bachelor of Arts degree and the University of Lagos with a Master of Arts degree in Theatre Arts. Between 2008 and 2010, he also graduated with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).
He has a strong career spanning more than 20 years, with practical expertise in media, journalism, and perception management.
According to the government’s THEMES+ development agenda, Akosile is expected to carry out his media and perception management of the governor and his administration in his new capacity.
