Millions of Naira worth of goods and houses were lost on Monday morning when a massive portion of Kogi State’s Kabba Central Market was destroyed by fire in athe early hours of monday.
The devastating fire destroyed many enterprises and sources of income, leaving traders and locals shocked and distraught. Shops and booths were also targeted.
According to reports, the fire broke out around five in the morning and quickly spread to all of the market’s colorful booths and stores.
Although sympathizers flocked to the area in an attempt to put out the fire and stop it from spreading, containment proved to be extremely challenging due to the fire’s strength.
Witnesses stated that store owners watched their merchandise and supplies burn up, powerless to stop the fire. Known for offering a wide range of products, including electronics, textiles, and fresh farm food, the market is now in ruins.
Authorities were still investigating the fire’s origin to see if it resulted from an electrical malfunction, carelessness, or some other source.
Residents of Kabba in the meantime, have expressed dissatisfaction about the lack of firefighting supplies in the market, which may have helped put out the fire.
