Rabiu Khalil, the Zonal Information Officer of the Gwarzo Local Government Area in Kano State, has verified that there was a fire outbreak that destroyed 22 stores in the Gwarzo Market, the local government area’s headquarters, and caused the loss of goods and property valued at millions of naira.
Many of the victims of Monday’s conflagration were reported to have lost millions of naira in the tragedy, sending them into despair.
A statement provided to New Telegram on Tuesday verified this.
The statement stated, “The fire started last Sunday at midnight and it took the state fire service personnel up until Monday morning to finally put it out.”
According to Khalil, the fire entirely destroyed dozens of stores and severely damaged properties valued at millions of naira, however no one was hurt or killed.
Dayyabu Lawan Bala, one of the victims, claimed that the fire cost him products totaling more than N5 million.
He urged the government and other wealthy people to help them in order to lessen their misery.
“This catastrophic fire incident cost me N5 million worth of merchandise in my shop. He said, “I’m pleading with the state administration to save us.
Abdullahi Muazu Babangandu, the member of the House of Representatives for the Gwarzo Federal Constituency, visited the affected traders to show his sympathies and gave N500,000 to the victims.
When contacted, Saminu Abdullahi, the Kano State Fire Service’s public relations officer, confirmed the occurrence and stated that the fire damaged a total of 22 stores.
But he clarified that two of the 22 stores were still being built.
According to Abdullahi, “there were 22 affected shops, two of which were incomplete.”
