Former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, AIG Hakeem Odumosu (retd), has distanced himself from reports that he was chosen as acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by President Bola Tinubu before departing for France yesterday.

Odumosu claimed that he was unaware of the appointment and that he had no conversation with the president prior to his departure, describing the spread of the bogus appointment as an unneeded diversion by mischief makers.

While completely rejecting the rumors, Odumosu advised Nigerians, particularly those who valued his service to police the country, to disregard anything that had been circulated online about his selection as EFCC boss.

He revealed this in an interview with The Guild on Wednesday, following multiple calls and messages from friends and associates thanking him after reading the phony news on various social media sites in the country.

The former Commissioner, who disavowed the story, stated that he has no such ambitions and is already contributing his fair share to the country’s progress.

Odumosu encouraged the miscreants to cease peddling and attaching his name to phony appointment news, stating, “I am not aware of this information, and please stop peddling fake news on my name.”
