The Osun State House of Assembly has officially recognised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmen as the legitimate executives of local government councils across the state, firmly rejecting the continued occupation of council offices by All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmen whom it labelled as “impostors.”

During its Thursday plenary, the House declared the APC chairmen as illegally holding office, citing a court ruling that removed them and a subsequent withdrawal of their Certificates of Return by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC).

Raising the issue, Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi, representing Obokun Constituency, decried the disruption and hardship the ongoing power tussle has caused at the grassroots. He urged immediate intervention to restore order and ensure local governance continuity.

Lawmakers further expressed alarm over reports that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) may be preparing to release council allocations to the ousted APC officials. They warned that any such action would be illegal and undermine the rule of law.

“The CBN must refrain from disbursing funds to those no longer recognised by the law,” Hon. Adeyemi stated.

The Majority Leader, Hon. Kofoworola Adewumi, moved a resolution resisting any attempt to unseat the duly elected PDP chairmen, an action seconded by Hon. Olujinmi Asagade of Ejigbo.

Speaker of the House, Hon. Adewale Egbedun, adopted the resolution which was unanimously supported by all members present.

The Assembly called on all relevant authorities to respect the court’s decision and uphold democratic principles at the local government level.
