Lawyer Oyibo Chukwu, the party’s senatorial candidate for Enugu East, was killed. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, has condemned the death while urging security agencies to find the killers and bring them to justice.

Chukwu was assassinated by unidentified shooters, who also set fire to his car.

Obi expressed his sorrow for the loss to Barr. Chukwu’s family, the Enugu East senatorial zone, and the Labour Party on Thursday in response to the assassination of the LP senatorial candidate via his verified Twitter account.

The Labour Party’s presidential candidate wrote: “I heard the news of the agonizing death of Barr Oyibo Chukwu, the Senate Candidate of the Labour Party, for Enugu East Senatorial Zone, with deep sorrow and sadness.

“I vehemently oppose Barr Chukwu’s murder in its totality. Regardless of political affiliation, human life must always be valued highly. It is beyond disheartening to witness the mindless bloodshed that takes place in the country. We cannot stay on this perilous course.

“Enough murdering; it’s time to start mending. I deeply mourn this tragic loss with the grieving family, the Enugu East Senatorial Zone, and our beloved Labour Party family. I urge law enforcement officials to find the criminals responsible for this crime, prosecute them, and make sure that Nigerians can freely carry out their civic obligations without fear. -PO.”
