Babatunji Wusu –

Simon Soludo, the father of Anambra State’s governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, passed away.

It was reported that the nonagenarian passed away early on Monday morning following a medical condition.

But there hasn’t been a formal statement regarding the death.

Christian Aburime, the press secretary for Soludo, confirmed the information to The PUNCH over the phone. I’ll be making a remark about it shortly.

As a thunderstorm in Anambra State kills students, Peter Obi weeps.
In the meantime, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) nominee for president in 2023, has expressed his condolences for the passing of a few secondary school kids who were struck by lightning over the weekend.

In a statement he personally signed on Sunday, Obi called the students’ deaths regrettable and a huge loss.

Recall that on Saturday, while playing football in the rain, nine students from Tansi International College in Awka were struck by lightning. Three of the nine have passed away, while the other two are in the hospital.

In response, the former governor of Anambra State expressed sympathy to everyone impacted by the incident and prayed for the hospitalized individuals to recover quickly.

“I am greatly saddened by the unfortunate natural disaster that happened at Tansi International College, Awka this weekend,” he said on the X platform through his account. Nine College students were reportedly struck by lightning on Saturday, November 4, amid a downpour.

Regretfully, three of the pupils passed away, while the remaining ones are doing well under hospital care. I send my condolences to the College’s administration, students, and grieving families. May God give you the strength to handle this enormous loss, eternal rest for the deceased, and speedy healing for those who have been hurt.
