On Friday, the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) announced the appointment of important officials to head the National Assembly bureaucracy’s top management team, with Mr. Sani Magaji Tambuwal, the former secretary of finance and accounts, serving as the position’s acting clerk (Ag. CNA).

Tambuwal’s appointment follows news that Arc Amos Ojo, the departing CNA, was scheduled to begin a pre-retirement leave of compulsorily last Monday.

To ensure the successful completion of the ongoing 2023 Budget’s processing, which should only be transmitted by the substantive Clerk to the National Assembly in accordance with the provisions of the Authentication Act, NASC explained that Ojo will have to remain in place and work with the acting CNA until February 14, 2023, when he will be eligible for retirement.

Other appointees were stated in a statement by NASC’s executive chairman, Engr. Ahmed Kadi Amshi, dated Friday, November 18, 2022. Formerly the Secretary of Legal Services, Mr. Ogunlana Kamoru has been promoted to the position of acting Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly (Ag. DCNA).

The former Secretary of Special Duties, Mrs. Henrietta Aimua-Ehikioya, has also been reassigned to the position of Secretary of Legal Services.

The Human Resources Directorate’s acting secretary is Mr. Birma Shuaibu, the Director, Legislative.

Others include Mr. Omogbehin Yomi, Director of Legislative, who has been named the acting Secretary of Special Duties, and Mr. Umoru Barde Ali, Director of Pharmacy, who has been named the acting Secretary of Research and Information.

The announcement states that Mr. Nwoba Andrew, Director of Administration, has been named the interim Secretary of Planning and Legislative Budget, and Mr. Inyang Clement Titus, Director of Accounts, has been named the acting Secretary of Finance and Accounts.

The appointments followed the Commission’s approval of a note from the Committee on Establishment, Records, and Training about the need to fill open positions on the National Assembly Management team.

In order to ensure the success of the ongoing 2023 Appropriation Bill’s processing, which should be transmitted by only the substantive Clerk to the National Assembly in accordance with the provisions of the Authentication Act, the Commission further resolved that the departing Clerk to the National Assembly, Arc. Ojo Olatunde Amos, continues to work with the acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Sani Magaji Tambuwal, until his retirement date of February 14, 2023.
