The capital of Rivers State, Port Harcourt, saw a Friday morning chopper crash involving members of the Nigerian Air Force.
showed the NAF MI-35P helicopter crashed at precisely 7:45 a.m.
It crashed after taking off for an operation in Rivers State against economic saboteurs.
The news was verified by NAF spokesman Edward Gabkwet in a statement.
Even though they had “minor injuries,” he added that everyone on board had survived.
“Fortunately, all five members of the crew survived the crash with very minor injuries,” the statement states. “They are currently receiving treatment at the NAF Medical Center Port Harcourt.”
Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff, is presently traveling to Port Harcourt in order to personally inspect the situation, ensure the crew’s well-being, and issue additional orders.
“This kind of incident serves as a sobering reminder of the risks involved in military aviation as well as the difficulties faced by NAF technicians and pilots in carrying out their demanding missions of protecting our country and discouraging criminal elements from their nefarious activities.”
