Babatunji Wusu –
Amidu Raheem and Fasuwa Abayomi’s nominations to the National Population Commission (NPC) as commissioners have been formally approved by the Senate.
After reviewing the report from the Senate Committee on National Identity and Population Commission, the parliamentarians decided on Wednesday, or today.
Remember that during a meeting in the upper legislative chamber last month, Senate President Godswill Akpabio presented a letter in which President Bola Ahmed Tinubu formally requested confirmation of Raheem and Abayomi.
In his plea, the President referenced clause 154(1) of the nation’s Constitution and expressed hope that the Senate will take up his idea as soon as possible.
Raheem, an Osun State native, is a renowned academician who serves as the head of Fountain University’s Department of Public Administration in Osogbo, the state capital.
He was the main whip in the Osun House of Assembly in 1992 and a former politician representing Iwo Constituency 1. Additionally, he has worked under Gboyega Oyetola, the previous governor of Osun, as the commissioner for energy and water resources.
However, Hon. Fasua Abayomi Johnson—also referred to as FAJ—was a former chairman of the House of Assembly Committee on Works and is well-known in the Ogun political community.
