The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) stated on Monday that the Senior School Certificate Examination will be administered using the Computer-Based Test modality.
WAEC claims to have abandoned the paper and pencil testing model.
The examination organization made the announcement in a statement issued by Moyosola Adesina, the acting head of WAEC’s Public Affairs Unit.
“In line with global best practices, the Nigeria National Office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) wishes to inform the general public and all its stakeholders that it has concluded plans to migrate its WASSCE for Private Candidates Examination Diets from Paper and Pencil Test to Computer Based Examination (CBE),” the statement reads.
“WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2024 – First Series, scheduled for February 2024, will mark the beginning of the innovation. The essay and test of practical papers will be hybrid exams, with examination questions presented on a screen and students filling out response booklets to complete. The objective tests would be entirely computer-based.
Furthermore, candidates with special requirements have been taken into consideration in the design, and the exam will be held in urban areas or cities.
The examination’s registration will open on Monday, December 18, 2023.
To provide candidates with an opportunity to become acquainted with the new testing platform, plans have been finalized for a mock exam to be held in February 2024 before to the actual exam.
In light of this, the Council strongly advises all potential applicants to sharpen their computer abilities and get ready to embrace this innovation.
In the near future, the Council envisions itself as Africa’s preeminent assessing organization, offering dependable and high-quality educational evaluation while promoting moral and intellectual excellence. All of its exams will be administered online.
