Barrister Maxwell, who claimed in a recent viral video that a magistrate from the Nassarawa State Judiciary was looting Nigerians, has been challenged by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN).
As much as the union is in favor of flushing out bad eggs from the system, the union will not entertain any blanket statement from either a lawyer or anyone else aimed at tarnishing the image of the highly respected members of the judiciary, said Comrade Jimoh Musa Alonge, Chairman of JUSUN’s Nasarawa State Chapter, in response to the viral video.
Barrister Maxwell, he said, asserted that a magistrate had issued an order but had withheld the magistrate’s name and court.
“A viral video purporting to show that a certain magistrate from Masaka, Nasarawa State, has been working with the Nigerian police to deceive unwary Nigerians has captured the attention of the Nasarawa State Branch of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN).”
The union is not interested in becoming involved in the dispute with Barrister Maxwell on his claims, but rather with the generalization he made when defending the aforementioned Magistrate.
“As a union, we would like to declare that we are aware of Justice Aisha Aliyu’s character, the Chief Judge of Nasarawa State. She does not support lying in any way. We request that the attorney provide the name of the magistrate who issued the order so that the offending party may be held accountable. There are roughly three magistrate courts in Masaka alone, therefore saying there is just one magistrate there is a generalization.
