In a preseason friendly on Wednesday in Florida, Juventus overcame Real Madrid 3-1 thanks to the first goal of American international Timothy Weah’s Juventus career.
In front of a sold-out 63,503 spectators in Orlando, Weah, who recently transferred to Juventus from Lille, put the Serie A team up 2-0 after 20 minutes after receiving a pass from American teammate Weston McKennie.
McKennie contributed to his team’s initial goal, which was scored within the first 60 seconds of the game, as well. McKennie spent the second half of last season on loan at Premier League club Leeds, where he struggled to make an impact.
McKennie curled a shot against the foot of the post as a result of a clever approach move, and Moise Kean was there to convert the rebound.
After a poor start, Real Madrid, who once again started newly acquired Jude Bellingham, eventually pulled one back through Brazilian international Vinicius Jr. seven minutes before halftime.
Vinicius advanced toward the Juventus goal after Toni Kroos’ excellent pass, and the striker calmly hoisted his finish over Wojciech Szczesny to score.
In a fragmented second half, Real sought an equalizer before Dusan Vlahovic secured Juventus’ victory in stoppage time.
The match on Wednesday was Real’s last preseason match before the start of the La Liga season on August 12 against Athletic Bilbao.
In the meantime, Juventus has left for Italy to get ready for its August 20 matchup against Udinese.
