KADUNA, KOGI, AND ZAMFARA GOVERNMENTS DRAG THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO THE SUPREME COURT OVER THE NEW CURRENCY.

The Supreme Court has been summoned by the governments of Kaduna, Kogi, and Zamfara states in order to prevent the Federal Government from fully implementing the program.

The impact of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s naira redesign policy on the citizens of the states have alarmed the state administrations.

The three Attorneys General and Commissioners of Justice of the three states are named as plaintiffs in the lawsuits, and Abubakar Malami, Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, is named as the sole respondent.

The three northern states are asking the court to grant them an interim injunction to prevent the FG from carrying out its plan to terminate the February 10 deadline within which the now-outdated 200, 500, and 1000 naira denominations would cease to be legal tender. This is done through a motion ex-parte filed on their behalf by their attorney, AbdulHakeem Mustapha, SAN.
