Kaduna State House of Assembly Moves to Regulate Rising House Rents

The Kaduna State House of Assembly has moved to regulate house rent charges as rising accommodation costs continue to put pressure on residents across the state.

Speaker Yusuf Dahiru Liman sponsored the proposed bill, which seeks to establish rules for landlords and property owners who charge rent for residential accommodation.

The move comes as high housing costs affect low-income earners, workers, students and young families.

For many residents, rising rent has become a major financial burden. Therefore, the proposed legislation seeks to introduce a fairer framework for residential rent charges.

The Kaduna State House of Assembly has now referred the bill to the relevant committee for detailed consideration.

The committee will examine the proposed provisions before the Assembly decides on the next stage of the legislation.

However, the bill has not yet become law. It must pass through the required legislative process before it can take effect.

If passed, the legislation could introduce clearer rules for residential rent charges across Kaduna State.

It could also provide tenants with greater protection while giving landlords a defined legal framework for setting rents.
