The Chief Whip of the 9th Senate and Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has dismissed reports suggesting a division within the National Assembly or any active plot to remove the Senate President.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja, Senator Kalu described the speculation as baseless, insisting that the Red Chamber remains a united family dedicated to advancing the nation’s interests.

“Yes, there were attempts, but we didn’t allow it to happen. The Senate is one big family. We are more interested in making laws that will help President Tinubu succeed,” Kalu said. “The legislation we are bringing is pro-business and people-oriented.”

Kalu reaffirmed his loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasizing that the upper chamber is committed to enacting policies that promote economic stability, job creation, and security across Nigeria.

On the wave of defections from opposition parties to the APC, the senator maintained that no one is being coerced to join the ruling party, describing the moves as voluntary and driven by a shared belief in President Tinubu’s leadership.

“Neither I nor other senators have forced anyone to join the APC. But as a loyal party member, I will campaign for all APC candidates, including President Tinubu, in 2027,” Kalu stated.

On the economy, Kalu acknowledged that while macroeconomic indicators are improving under President Tinubu, Nigerians continue to feel the pressure at the grassroots level.

“The economy is growing, foreign investors are coming in, but the micro-economy is struggling. What will help is going back to the farm. The President has put his life on the line to revive the economy,” Kalu added.

The former governor reaffirmed his belief that the partnership between the executive, legislature, and international allies remains critical to Nigeria’s recovery, urging continued unity among senators to drive national development.
