In the German Super Cup on Saturday, Dani Olmo scored a hat-trick to lead RB Leipzig to a 3-0 triumph against champion Bayern Munich, preventing record signing Harry Kane from making his debut for the Bavarians.
Hours earlier, England captain Harry Kane signed a four-year contract amid a media frenzy. He came off the bench in the second half but was unable to stop the team’s season-opening loss to the German Cup winners.
Coach Thomas Tuchel was furious with the home team’s performance, stating it appeared as though they had put in no effort throughout their four-week preseason.
It feels like we have done nothing in the last four weeks, which is a significant concern, Tuchel stated.
“I am at a loss for words. Simply put, it fell short in every area. I just don’t understand why. Our performance on the field has nothing to do with how we were playing or how we felt heading into the game.
This is bad. The biggest difference makes it the worst, according to Tuchel.
Olmo, a Spaniard, capitalized on weak defending by Bayern to give his team the lead in the third minute. A minute before halftime, he added another goal with a brilliant flip and spin that left two defenders standing.
Mohamed Simakan of Leipzig nearly handed Bayern an equalizer earlier on when he hit the post while attempting to clear the ball.
With Bayern wasting chances up top, like they did for much of last season, Tuchel substituted Kane in the 64th minute to rousing applause from the home crowd. Kane’s transfer reportedly cost a Bundesliga record 100 million euros.
He received just three touches, though, and Olmo scored again, this time with a penalty only four minutes later, to give his squad their first championship of the year.
“That night was incredible. Over the course of 90 minutes, we put a lot of effort into possession as well, Olmo stated. “I believe the game was perfect.
