-Yusuf Dismisses Bichi’s Viral Claims as Lies and Political Mischief
Vows to Defend Kwankwaso’s Legacy, Warns Media Against Spreading Falsehoods

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has forcefully rejected the corruption allegations levelled against Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, by the former Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Baffa Bichi.

Speaking on Sunday during a high-level meeting with 484 councillors drawn from the 44 local government areas of Kano State, Governor Yusuf described Bichi’s accusations as unfounded, malicious, and aimed at sowing political discord.

The governor was reacting to a viral video where Bichi claimed that the Yusuf-led administration had looted more funds in two years than the entire eight years of the immediate past Governor Abdullahi Ganduje. Bichi also alleged that Senator Kwankwaso received N2 billion monthly from state funds — a claim Governor Yusuf called an outright fabrication.

“There is a beneficiary of this administration who was recently removed from office. I saw him shamelessly claiming that this government has stolen ten times more than what Ganduje’s administration stole in eight years,” Yusuf said.

He questioned why Bichi, if honest, never raised such allegations while in office, and described his statements as disgraceful for someone of his age and previous stature.

“Why didn’t he say this while he was still serving if he was truly honest?” Yusuf asked.

Governor Yusuf warned that such reckless statements could erode societal values, especially when elders and traditional authorities are openly disrespected.

“Our society is at risk when respected figures—religious leaders, elders, traditional rulers—are insulted without consequence. From now on, we will not tolerate such behavior,” he declared.

The governor also defended Kwankwaso’s integrity and legacy, stressing that the former governor and ex-minister has served Nigeria in sensitive positions and must not be dragged into political mudslinging.

“Our leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has served this nation in various critical capacities and understands the demands of leadership. It is unacceptable that someone of such experience and stature be ridiculed by those who have achieved far less,” Yusuf said.

He then issued a stern warning to media houses that amplify falsehoods.

“To the media organizations that give space to these irresponsible statements: we are watching. If you continue to spread these harmful narratives, be reminded that we are in a position of authority and will not hesitate to act,” he cautioned.

Reaffirming his loyalty to Kwankwaso, Yusuf declared:

“Wherever he goes, we go with him. We are proud of our choice, and we have no regrets.”

The governor used the occasion to urge councillors to remain united and focus on grassroots development. He pledged to renovate all local government secretariats and enhance services in education, healthcare, agriculture, and rural security.

“Our administration is committed to transparency. There is no room for corrupt individuals here. Anyone found looting public funds will be shown the door,” he concluded.
