According to the Kano State Hisbah Board, from January to December, it destroyed 25 trucks of beer and caught 2,260 suspected criminals.

Dr Harun Sani-Ibn, the Board’s Commander General, announced this during a press conference at the board’s headquarters in Kano on Thursday.

He claimed that the trucks held thousands of bottles of various beers, and that additional bottles will be consumed before the end of the year.

“Most of those caught for the criminal offence were handed over to security services for necessary action, while the underaged were reunited with their families.

“In the year under review, in order to eliminate street begging within the city, around 1,269 beggars were evacuated within one month, and 386 were repatriated to their states.

“The Kano State Hisbah Board has also been successful in dispersing 86 immoral gatherings and other similar infractions to restrict social vices across the state,” he added.

According to Ibn-Sina, approximately 822 conflicts were settled amicably, while others were still pending in various legal courts due to their complexity.

He further stated that 15 couples were married in Hisbah, and 22 people converted to Islam as a result of Da’awah in various sections of the state.

According to Ibn-Sina, the State Government hired 5,700 Hisbah Marshalls and 3,100 Hisbah Corps, as well as rebuilt Hisbah headquarters and local government offices.

The Commander-General announced the establishment of a new Shari’a court at the board headquarters, while the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero,ç accepted the upgrading of Hisbah Mosque to a Juma’at Mosque.

He urged parents to be more vigilant and report any suspicious person to the appropriate authorities, as the agency would not rest in its efforts to rid the state of all vices.
