Alhaji Lamin Muktar Hassan, the Deputy Managing Director of the Kano State Refuse Management and Environmental Agency (REMASAB), has returned over N4.7 million that was mistakenly credited to his bank account by the state government. Hassan initially assumed the funds were his January 2025 salary. However, after reviewing the transaction, he realized the amount was over 85% higher than his usual monthly earnings.

Hassan, who had faced months of salary delays and was paid his arrears in December 2024, noticed that the erroneous payment mirrored his December salary arrears but did not include his actual January salary. Upon this realization, he promptly reported the mistake to the Ministry of Finance and the Accountant General’s Office.

To rectify the error, Hassan returned the entire sum and obtained a receipt, which he submitted to the Ministry of Finance as proof. Despite having less than 10% of the credited amount in his account and not having received his January salary at the time, Hassan emphasized that returning the funds was the responsible action.

As a proud Kano indigene, Hassan stressed the importance of ensuring that public funds are used properly for the benefit of the state.
