Babatunji Wusu –
Alhaji Aminu Ado-Bayero, the Emir of Kano, begged merchants to lower the cost of food and other goods so that the general public might observe Ramadan more easily.
The call was made by the royal father at the publication of a book by Prof. Sa’idu-Mohammed Gusau titled “Dauloli a Kasar Hausa,” which translates to “Kingdoms in Hausaland.”
In order to commemorate the holy month of Ramadan and have their prayers and sacrifices recognized by God Almighty, Ado-Bayero advised wealthy Nigerians to support the less fortunate during the fast and prayed for their safety and well-being.
In the meantime, in an effort to ease financial hardships during Ramadan, the Jigawa state government authorized on February 28 the purchase of 27,000 bags of rice and 10,800 boxes of spaghetti for distribution to citizens.
Sagir Musa, the commissioner for information, youth, sports, and culture, said that a memorandum approving the purchase of grains for the purpose of providing palliative support during the Ramadan season in 1445AH/2024 was accepted by the state executive council.
“A memo presented by the ministry of special duties for the award of contract for procurement of grains as palliative support for residents in the 1445AH/2024 Ramadan season” was accepted by the state executive council on Monday, according to the commissioner.
“As palliatives for the 1445AH/2024 Ramadan fasting, the council approved the procurement of 27,000 bags of rice and 10,800 cartons of spaghetti.”
