The Katsina State Police Command successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt on Sunday evening, rescuing 14 victims in the process. The incident took place at Dan’arau village, along the Magama-Jibia Road in Jibia Local Government Area.

According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the kidnappers, suspected armed bandits, fired upon two commercial vehicles in an attempt to abduct the passengers. Responding to a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia LGA led a team of operatives to the scene, engaging the bandits in a gunfight. The police successfully foiled the kidnapping and rescued the 14 victims.

Sadly, two of the rescued individuals were injured by gunshots and were rushed to the hospital, though one of them later died from the wounds despite medical efforts. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify and apprehend the fleeing bandits.

The State’s Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar, praised the officers’ bravery and swift response. He emphasized the need for ongoing efforts to combat crime and called on citizens to assist the police by providing information on suspicious activities. The CP reiterated the Police Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of Katsina residents.
