Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has charged newly appointed officials in his administration to deliver measurable results, uphold integrity, and discharge their duties with commitment and responsibility.
Governor Kefas gave the directive over the weekend while inaugurating members of boards, bodies, and commissions, stressing that the institutions were established to drive tangible change rather than serve ceremonial purposes. He said the mandate of the appointees was to improve the lives of citizens through effective governance and accountable leadership.
The governor urged development commissions to play active roles in peacebuilding, food security, and economic growth across all sectors of the state. He called for strong collaboration with local communities, traditional institutions, farmers, and security agencies to ensure that development initiatives foster sustainable growth and prevent conflict.
Kefas emphasized that infrastructure projects must remain people-centred, noting that true development should be measured by its impact on citizens rather than media publicity. He also charged the leadership of the Taraba State University of Tropical Agriculture, Science, Technology and Climate Action to pursue excellence in research and innovation, with a focus on agricultural transformation, climate resilience, and youth preparedness for future challenges.
On public health and environmental sustainability, the governor underscored the importance of cleanliness and environmental restoration, describing them as critical to healthy living. He recalled remarks made during the President’s visit to the state last year, highlighting the need for inclusiveness, improved sanitation, and the protection of workers’ safety, directing that workers must be adequately safeguarded at all times.
Governor Kefas reminded the appointees that public office is a responsibility, not a privilege, adding that performance would be evaluated based on outcomes and solutions rather than rhetoric. He identified justice, fairness, transparency, discipline, and integrity as non-negotiable values for all government officials.
“I did not appoint you to work in isolation. You are to complement one another. Our target is simple: results that the people can see and feel,” the governor said.
Responding on behalf of the appointees, Danladi T. Baido pledged their loyalty to the Kefas administration, assuring that the institutions under their leadership would promote accountable governance, empower citizens, and help build a safe, just, and inclusive Taraba State.
